Centralia College Students with Mobile Phones Mostly Have Smartphones, and They Love Having Them Near!

The eLearning Council of Washington State’s community and technical colleges conducted some polling recently to gauge interest and ability in mobile technologies for learning.  Centralia College students contributed their input, and here’s what we learned:

There were 87 Centralia College students who responded to the survey, announced in Angel.

All of the respondents had mobile phones, and of those more than half owned a smartphone.  As a percent, fewer respondents at Centralia College own a smartphone than respondents statewide. (57.4% compared to 68.8% of all respondents statewide).

The most owned smartphone among these Centralia College students: Android. (iPhone came in a near second.)

However, 64.4% of these students said they have their phones with them “98% or more of the time. I pretty much always have my mobile phone with me.”

  1. I’m surprised that only 87 students responded. Perhaps the interest in mobile technology in education is not that important to students. Or perhaps they’re not aware of how their smartphone could be used.
